This notice explains which personal data we process when you visit this website or take part in the Astronomy & Astrophysics Masterclass, and what rights you have.

Visiting the website

When you open a page, our server processes your IP address, the time, the page requested and your browser type in order to deliver the page and to keep the service secure. Server logs are deleted after a short period. The website is hosted in Germany. Fonts, scripts and images are served from our own server; no content is loaded from third parties unless stated below.

Your account and your participation

To create an account we need your email address. To take part in the program we also ask for your first and last name, date of birth, country, city, level of study and, where applicable, your school or institution. We store your progress: the units sent to you, your quiz answers and scores, your final exam attempts and results, and the certificate issued to you. We use these data to run the program for you, to issue your certificate and transcript, and to understand in aggregate who our participants are. The legal basis is the contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

We sign you in with links sent to your email address. A cookie keeps you signed in; it is necessary for the service and is not used for tracking.

Emails

We send you the emails that belong to the program: units, quiz links, results, reminders, further reading, exam and certificate notices. They are delivered through the email service SendGrid (Twilio Inc.), which processes your email address and the message on our behalf. If you subscribe to our newsletter we use your email address for it until you unsubscribe; every newsletter contains an unsubscribe link (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

Payment

The tuition fee is paid through Stripe (Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd.). Your card details are entered on Stripe's pages and never reach our servers. We receive confirmation of the payment, your billing name, billing address and country, and store them with your invoice as tax law requires (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR).

Certificate verification

If you pass the program, your certificate receives a verification ID. Anyone who has this ID or your personal verification link can see your name, your masterclass, your quiz scores, your final exam result and the date of completion on our website. You decide who receives the ID or the link. The page is not listed in search engines.

Analytics

We count page views without storing visitor data. If Google Analytics is active on this website, it is loaded only after you have agreed in the cookie notice (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw your consent at any time by clearing the site data in your browser, after which the notice appears again.

Contact form

Messages you send through the contact form are stored and answered by email. We delete them when the matter is closed, unless we are required to keep them.

How long we keep data

Account and progress data are kept while your account exists. Certificates and their verification records are kept so that they remain verifiable; you can ask us to delete them, in which case the certificate can no longer be verified. Invoices are kept for the period required by German tax law.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, and the right to withdraw consent. To exercise them, write to info@aamasterclass.org. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.

Participants under 16

If you are under 16, please ask a parent or guardian to agree before you create an account or enrol.
